Daily Dose of Protest: Toy – Young Fathers

World leaders as spoiled little man children isn’t a new concept and it is a concept that plays out in the new video and song by Scottish alternative hip hop trio Young Fathers. The director of the music video Salomon Ligthelm made the following statement: “The tone of the track is so visceral and abrasive, which I think marries the political subject matter perfectly. I honestly just really like the idea of seeing dictators behaving like spoilt little children — pissed with the world, because things aren’t going their way. Looking at the political climate of our time, I’d say truth is certainly stranger than fiction.”

Both the song and video resonates in today’s political climate. The lyrics well expressed the narcissist illusions of grandeur of Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un and other dictators (or wanna be dictators).

“I teach a class in sinning
I’m always winning
Just for you
Fictitious revenue
Sold for what I get”

“Toy” is off of Young Fathers critically acclaimed third album, Cocoa Sugar.
