“Raise Your Voice Joyce” is the lead single from the soon to be released album Dose Your Dreams, from Toronto hardcore veterans Fucked Up. The album is scheduled to be released October 5, 2018. It is a concept album built around the protagonist David, a character who frequents the band’s cannon, most notably their 2011 groundbreaking magnum opus David Comes to Life.
The just released lyric video for “Raise Your Voice Joyce” also features another new tune, “Two I’s Closed”. Concerning “Raise Your Voice Joyce”, according to the press release, the tune “marks a return to the group’s perennial hero David as he encounters the revolutionary sorcerer Joyce Tops, who lives in a garbage bin behind his work.”
The song is a glorious blend of sunny melodies, retro psychedelia and saxophone juxtaposed with Damian Abraham aggressive howls.
The song isn’t a protest tune per se, but lyrics such as “I’m not meant to be stuck in this poverty” and “she paid her way, she’s not a slave” are empowering.
The song is a resonating anthem for any marginalized groups who have had their voices suppressed. Rise up and let your voices be heard.
