Daily Dose of Protest: Everyone’s Got Won – Anime Oscen & Hive

Album cover from Bandcamp.

After a couple of solo albums, Canadian singer-songwriter Anime Oscen released a four song EP with Hive, entitled North Country. It was executive produced by Chuck D. On the surface the legendary rapper helping to produce a country act may seem to be an odd pairing, but there is similarities in the socially conscious message of the music. The EP features the new topical single and video “Everyone’s Got Won”.

The YouTube video page made the following statement: “Everyone’s Got Won” asks one to imagine a world where every single person, including toddlers, are walking around with a loaded gun. It paints a world where no one is ever able to relax. The message is clear: From afar it looks as though the USA is almost at this point.”

On an almost daily basis there is a new report about a mass shooting. You can’t go to school, places of worship, concerts, hospitals, etc…, without fear of getting shot.

One of the key verses is “You say that’s impossible, that child, with a smile. A toy in one hand, the other a fistful. This is not a nightmare, this is tomorrow if we have no fear our demise is near.”

The lyrics highlight the absurdity of trying to solve America’s gun problems by adding more guns. The provocative visuals adds further weight to the song’s timely message.
