Tom Morello just released a music video for “Every Step That I Take” off his 2018 album The Atlas Underground. On the tune, the guitarist collaborates with Portugal. The Man & Whethan.

The video is directed by Sean Evans and it is a modern retelling of November 19, 1915 death of influential singer-songwriter and labor activist Joe Hill. Morello says of the video: “Revolutionary labor troubadour Joe Hill was murdered by a Utah firing squad for a crime he did not commit.”

Morello continues, “They pinned a heart & crosshairs to his chest so the firing squad wouldn’t miss. His ashes were mailed to the four corners of the world and from those ashes generations of new revolutionaries continue to rise. The Atlas Underground sprang from those ashes as well and is proof that ideas, songs and struggle are bulletproof.”

The video is a fitting tribute, which effectively connects past protest movements with the present.
