Featuring contributions from funk legend George Clinton, this is the 2nd single from the ska-punk-funk pioneers’ upcoming 9th album Stockholm Syndrome, out June 27. The lyrics address longtime societal ills that plague America, such as economic inequality, contaminated drinking water, police murdering black people, and other forms of institutional corruption. The video also makes effective use of archival footage, which adds powerful visuals that complement the song’s timely message.
Co-written by Chris Dowd and Walter “Dirty Walt” Kibby and featuring lead vocals by Angelo Moore, Dowd states, “The song comes out swinging, with Angelo singing from the top of the song ‘price gouging and rising inflation’ as George Clinton exclaims, ‘5 dollars for gasoline!’ This song is a warning call to humanity to recognize the inflection point that is tearing the soul of this country and world apart.”
