Legendary Canadian punk band D.O.A., recently released their 17th studio album Fight Back. The hardcore vets are also embarking on a tour celebrating their 40th anniversary as a band.
Also, lead singer Joe “Shithead” Keithley is running as a Green Party candidate for Mayor of Burnaby, BC. His platform includes sustainability and opposition to the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion. This also isn’t his first foray into politics. He has run in BC provincial elections on multiple occasions, mostly running for the Green Party.
D.O.A. also released a video for the album’s opening track, “You Need An Ass Kickin’ Right Now”. The scathing minute and half tune puts evil and corrupt people on notice. The video depicts individuals that the band feel are particularly worthy of an ass kicking. The guilty culprits include Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Bill Cosby, Alex Jones, Harvey Weinstein, Kim Jong-un, Martin Shkreli, Kevin Spacey, Roy Moore, Betsy DeVos and Donald Trump.
The “ass kickin'” doesn’t have to be literal. It could be figuratively kicking their asses to the curb come election time, or could involve making them accountable for their actions. It is time to quit rewarding bad behavior. Sexists, racists, rapists, fascists, war criminals, exploiters of the poor, etc… need to be called out and know that their time is up.
