“Danny Nedelko” is the second single by UK post-punk IDLES, off of their soon to be released sophomore full length album Joy as an Act of Resistance due out August 31, 2018.
The songs namesake is a close friend of the band and he is an Ukrainian immigrant. Danny also appears in the joyful video. The tune is a stirring pro-immigration anthem. The lyrics mention different well-known immigrants that have made positive contributions to society. It also examines the reasons for xenophobia: “Fear leads to panic / Panic leads to pain / Pain leads to anger /Anger leads to hate.”
Instead of attacking a serious issue with anger, IDLES choose to protest social ills with positivity and joyful defiance.
