Heart Hunters is a husband and wife folk duo consisting of Drew de Man and Brianna Blackbird. They released their first full length album in 2015  under the moniker Pretend Sweethearts. They recently released their follow-up American Eclipse. The album explores issues both personal and political.

The opening track “Normal America” is described on the band’s website as “a protest song shining a harsh light on the flawed notion of the American dream.”

“We can’t just indulge in driving around playing music—we have to recognize our platform to spread ideas and use our music to aid social movements,” de Man states about why the band feels a need to use their music to convey socially conscious messages.

The band’s commitment to social issues goes beyond just the tunes they write. They also perform their music at homeless shelters, youth detention centers, prisons and rehab facilities. Their music is an important vehicle for delivering positive social change.
