Since releasing their debut self-titled EP in 1981, Bad Religion has long-established themselves as an influential political punk band. They recently released a brand new topical tune, “The Profane Rights of Man.”

In a press statement, lead singer and lyricist Greg Graffin explains the inspiration behind the song:  “The song is based on the 1789 document ‘The Universal Rights Of Man’. Since we’re a band that has a longstanding tradition of championing the enlightenment, we wanted to emphasize that our society is based on a profane rather than a sacred theological justification for human rights.” He also goes on to note that the tune is about “a secular basis for the protection of human rights for all people.”

The band is in the process of recording new music. They continue to be a vital force in using their music to champion social justice.
